Bike Virginia is a 501(C)(3) non-profit working to make Virginia a better place to live, work, and play using cycling initiatives.
The organization uses events, education, outreach, and grants to improve the health, economy, and overall wellbeing of Virginia. The organization uses events as a tool to create change and to raise funds to support other education and grants by the organization.
The Bike Virginia Tour is an annual event. The June dates for the the 2014 tour are June 20 – June 25.
Read an Overview of the event here… The Tour travels around the state to a new spot each year so participants can learn the fascinating history and see the amazing scenery. In 2013 Bike Virginia will visit the corridor from Buena Vista and Lexington to Botetourt and Roanoke, Virginia.
The Organization
The Bike Virginia Tour is organized by Bike Virginia, a non-profit organization that works to improve biking across the state.
We use funds generated by the tour to support projects each year across the state that improve biking. Some of the work we do:
- Promote bicycle tourism for rural and urban communities
- Help fund bicycle education in schools
- Ask elected federal, state, and local leaders to support bicycling- recreational and transportation
- Help businesses become more bike friendly
- Advise communities on being better for biking
- Help Virginia see the benefits of supporting bicycling from tourism to wellness to recreation.
- Give grants for bike projects
- Consult with communities that want to offer bike events and programs
- And, inspire people to get out on the bike so they can experience the simple joy of riding.
