2014 Water Activities on the Bike Virginia Tour

The East Bound 2014 Bike Virginia tour has tons of interesting places to visit and sights to see. Some of those places are great to visit by water. And who doesn’t love cooling off by the water after a day of riding. Sign up for a tubing trip for an afternoon of fun.

These are some of the activities you can enjoy while on our bike tour.

STAND UP PADDLEBOARDING

Stand Up Paddleboard (SUP) Yoga  $26 1:00pm Saturday. Take a free shuttle to Dutch Gap Recreation Area to enjoy this unique experience, yoga on the board. No experience needed.

Stand Up Paddleboard  (SUP)  Tour Dutch Gap, 2pm, 3pm, 4pm, $26- free bus transportation.  It’s one of the hottest trends on water right now. Paddling is easy and Black Dog Paddle will get you off to a great start.

Stand Up Paddleboard (SUP) Tour Pocahontas Park $26, 6:30pm, just a short bike ride from camp. Take the Pocahontas State Park Eco Tour on a SUP. It’s a great way to unwind after riding.  SUP_Ecotour

SCENIC BOAT TOUR

On Saturday, June 21 enjoy a magical two hour pontoon boat ride in the company of bald eagles, great blue heron, osprey, and a variety of songbirds and woodpeckers on the historic James River. Tours run at 1pm (only time slot left), and last 2 hours.

Today, over 200 pair of resident bald eagles call the James River home.  The James is now considered to have the best comeback of the bald eagle in the entire North American continent. Ride aboard the Spirit of the James, a comfortable 40-foot, covered pontoon boat, with a head (toilet) and experience majestic bald eagles closer than you may have ever seen them.  This 2-hour tour is one of the most unique eagle and wildlife tours on the East Coast! SWIMMING

Both headquarters locations for 2014 have swimming pools. We know this is a favorite service for our riders so we’re excited to be able to offer this at both Pocahontas and Chickahominy Riverfront Park. Fees may apply. Details coming soon. Pocahontas offers a kiddie pool, fountain wet deck, three-foot and five-foot-deep leisure pools, an activity pool, and two tubular water slides.

KAYAKING AND OTHER BOATING

You will have an opportunity to launch your own boats at both of our event centers in 2014 or rent various boats for your paddling pleasure. At Pocahontas State Park, rowboat, paddleboat, kayak, and canoe rentals are available at the 200-acre Swift Creek Lake. At Chickahominy Riverfront Park kayaks and motor boats are available to rent.   fall kayakers 4

FISHING

If you like throwing a line and hook into the water you’ll be pleased to know there is great fishing at both headquarter parks. Access two fishing lakes at Pocahontas State park where you’ll find crappie, largemouth bass, bluegill, and catfish. Chickahominy Riverfront Park offers a fishing pier with free access. Please bring your own tackle and gear.
