High Bridge Trail State Park
Situated along Main Street, the trail itself includes 31 miles of stunning forest views. The park is mainly used for cycling, horseback riding, and hiking. The bridge itself stretches 125 feet above the Appomattox River and is built upon an old railway bed. The views from the bride are absolutely stunning, perfect for a family photo-op. The park is open from dusk until dawn and has two parking lots, one on the east side and the other on the west side of the bridge. The Longwood Center for the Visual Arts
Also located on Main street is the LCVA. Their mission is to provide a forum that displays art in everyday life. Exhibits are a product of collaboration between Longwood faculty and staff, students, and the people of South Central Virginia. The LCVA also hosts workshops year-round and admission is free. The gallery is open Monday-Saturday 11 am to 5 pm, and Sundays 1 am to 5 pm. Check the link out for more information.
The Adventure Park
Who doesn’t love a good ropes course? The Adventure Park at Sandy River is sure to thrill all its contestants. The park includes 4 different courses, each a different skill set. It’s zip lines are 50 feet above the ground and are 500 feet long. What a ride! Sandy River also has unique lodging accommodations. Guests can stay in luxury, cabins, cottages, or tipis. Bright Eyes Alpaca Retreat
This is a family-owned micro-farm that has brought more smiles and “bright eyes” to the Farmville community. Guests can visit these gentle creatures by scheduling a tour of the farm. Twin Lakes State Park
Twin Lake State Park is home to the second headquarters and base camp for Bike Virginia 2020. The park has abundant recreation opportunities including swimming, fishing, boating and lakefront picnicking at Goodwin Lake. Hikers, mountain bikers and equestrians can take advantage of a neighboring multi-use trail in Prince Edward-Gallion State Forest. Read more here.
