The 2014 host region for Bike Virginia’s annual tour offers tons of fun things to see and activities to do.
On Friday night we’ll kick off the tour with live music at headquarters near our beer and wine garden and catered dinner. Visit the vendors and meet riders from all over the US. It’s a great way to unwind from the week and begin your vacation in style.
On Saturday and Sunday you’ll enjoy cycling on one of our route options. Routes will take you to see off the beaten path sights and cool areas you’d never find on your own. Once you’ve cruised back to headquarters you can take a dip, there’s swimming and an outing to take a Stand-up-Paddleboard tour (reservations required). Enjoy on site yoga or get a massage. Take a hike or a mountain bike ride through the beautiful trails that surround lakes and dive deep into the forest.
If you’re ready to hit the town you can head into Richmond’s historic neighborhoods by our bus service for guided tours, shopping, and dining. If you want to kick back and relax, we’ve got that covered too. Stick around headquarters for more live music, beer and wine, and if you’d like to let us take care of your meals you can take part in our Dinner package.
On Monday we move out, literally, our entire event heads to Williamsburg for more exploration. Our one way route delivers us to a great new headquarters in Chickahominy Riverfront Park. Not only does this park offer a great location for water activities like kayaking, fishing, and swimming, but it’s just a hop and a skip from one of Virginia’s best, historic tourism destinations.
On Monday evening you can enjoy a live concert at headquarters along with beer and wine, a catered meal or you can take one of our sightseeing shuttles to historic Colonial Williamsburg where you can soak up the interesting sights, enjoy some shopping, or visit a local restaurant or pub. Stay tuned, there may also be an exhibition Cyclo-cross race in the works for Monday night at headquarters!
On Tuesday riding will take you on an enjoyable journey through open farms and scenic waterways. Take a leisurely ride or head out for the century route. Then make plans to join the Bike Summit presentation and ice-cream social at headquarters. We’ll have a presentation on the “State of Cycling” in Virginia so you can catch up on the hot topics about bicycling access in the commonwealth. Following the presentation and social there will be live on site entertainment, a catered dinner, vendors, and beer and wine sales.
Wednesday marks the end of the tour with our final ride together. Take a nice easy ride and soak up the good memories of the event. We’ll roll through more historic areas and land back at Pocahontas State Park where there will be a celebration lunch waiting for you.
