There’s a ton to do on the Bike Virginia Tour. Not only is the cycling great with up to 6 days of riding there are lots of things to do for families whether they ride or not. Families that take part in the event have a fun relaxing vacation, giving you time to enjoy each other away from many of life’s busy distractions.
We love having families along on the tour. That’s why kids under 11 are free!
In 2014 the tour will be headquartered in two great locations that are full of recreation opportunities. We begin our adventure on Friday June 20 at Pocahontas State Park in Chesterfield. The park is home to a great swimming pool and reservoir for kayaking and paddle boat rides. There are hiking trails and mountain biking facilities too. And you can camp under the stars or rent a cabin for your whole crew. The state park also offers interpretive programs and fun kids programs including Junior Ranger Activities. Our Weekend Escape offers 3 days of riding and the perfect way for a family to give the tour a try.
You can sit back and relax and enjoy the fun. We even offer on site meals as an option so you don’t have to worry about feeding your hungry masses.
For the second half of the tour we pack up camp and head out to Williamsburg. The historic region offers some of the state’s favorite vacation spots for families. Our headquarters will be located at the scenic Chickahominy Riverfront Park. There, in addition to great camping you’ll find a swimming pool and access to the water.
The park is near Colonial Williamsburg which has many things to do with your children and they have excellent resources for planning a trip. Here is the link to one blog that provides some great tips for enjoying Williamsburg with family. Bike Virginia shuttles will be running to the downtown Williamsburg area free in the afternoons and evenings for your travel convenience.
Jamestown is also a great day trip for both young and old alike. Just a short drive from Williamsburg and part of our Bike Virginia Shuttle service it will be an easy trip and a place you should try to see. Here’s one family’s guide to visiting Jamestown with Children.
If your family are riders, they can select from one of the many routes we offer. Along the rides they will enjoy treats at our special rest stops and enjoy historical and scenic points that you might never encounter otherwise.
