The 2014 Bike Virginia Tour will visit a very special region of Virginia, the communities that have been selected to host the September 2015 UCI World Cycling Championships, a 9 day cycling spectacular featuring today’s greatest bike racers. This is a very special time for the region because the US has not hosted the event since 1986.
The 2015 event which is poised to bring 400,000 cycling enthusiasts, has been in planning for months and has kicked off an intense interest in cycling in the entire host region. Read what the Washington Post has to say about the races.
Senator Mark Warner was quoted in an article, “this is a once in a lifetime opportunity to showcase Virginia as a great place to live, to work, to visit and to cycle.” The U.S. Sen. Warner, an avowed cyclist and co-chair was part of the board that won the right for Richmond to host.
2015 UCI World Championship Routes
Exciting details about the September 19-27 event have started to emerge. The 2015 race routes have now been identified and released and we’re delighted to be able to take Bike Virginian’s into some of the very same areas as the 2015 race courses during our 2014 event.
The East Bound Bike Virginia Tour will visit the Richmond region during the first 3 days of the 6 day June 2014 event. On some days, the bike tour routes will cross areas where the 2015 races will be held. The Richmond region offers great riding, amidst some of the US’s most history rich areas. Visitors at both the Bike Virginia 2014 and the 2015 Championship events have a lot of things to see and do.
